Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a citizens group that is seeking a five-year moratorium on additional genetically-altered or engineered food in Maine. CLEAN: Maine, which is headed by Jonesboro activist Nancy Oden, said it will seek to outlaw all genetically altered food, including a new hybrid corn seed introduced by Monsanto that contains an insecticide within its chemical structure. Maine's Board of Pesticide Control now allows Maine farmers to raise potatoes that have the insecticide Bt incorporated into their chemical makeup.
