Abstract

"Practicum" piece on a mysterious June 19 incident at Seawall when a Soutwest Harbor woman reported that a middle-aged man might have thrown an infant into the sea. What resulted was an all-day search involving the Southwest Harbor police, Acadia National Park rangers, the Coast Guard, Hancock County Sheriff's Department, state marine patrol, state police, and local fire departments and emergency medical crews. The man, driving a vehicle with New York plates, was later stopped by police in Pretty Marsh. He was questioned and briefly held, then released because no evidence of a baby was found. Southwest Harbor police report no developments since then.
