Abstract

"Other Voices" piece by Ed Baum, senior fisheries scientist and coordinator of salmon restoration and management programs for the Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission in Bangor, who provides some important facts about Atlantic salmon and shad not mentioned in a May 27, 1999, Maine Times "Cover Story" piece by Murray Carpenter about the Penobscot River. In Baum's view, inadequate fish passage for shad and salmon at the Veazie Dam has been and continues to be the single greatest obstacle to anadromous fish restoration on the Penobscot River. With facts about Atlantic salmon migration and the results of artificial stocking.
