Abstract

Three other Maine islands have joined Frenchboro in trying to lure homesteaders by providing low-cost housing. Representatives from Vinalhaven, Isleboro and Isle au Haut presented their plans at the Island Institute's annual meeting last week, and the one piece of common advice which emerged was that the housing initiatives should be tailored to the local community and not to what has worked elsewhere.
