"News & Issues" piece on major land sales that are renewing questions of protection for the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. The sales include 245,000 acres of International Paper land along 10 miles of the upper Allagash sold to Clayton Lake Woodlands, and one million acres of Bowater Inc. land to the east and north of the Allagash corridor sold to Irving. About 15 percent of the land in Maine, nearly four million acres, have changed hands within the last year.
