Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a complaint by environmentalists that they have been shut out of meetings that the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has been having with the agriculture industry about statewide policies on water withdrawals from rivers for irrigating crops. Environmentalists are concerned because the effort to regulate water withdrawals is snared in a tangle of overlapping jurisdictions which includes the DEP, the Land Use Regulation Commission, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
