Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the Baxter State Park authority's Oct. 22 denial of a request from the Penobscot tribe to eliminate the fee for camping. The tribe requested a waiver of the charge so they could use the wilderness preserve for spiritual ceremonies. The park's legal counsel, Deputy Attorney General Paul Stern, said that constitutional law prohibits public funds from being used to promote or prohibit religious practices.
