Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on Maine's smoking ban in restaurants, which has led 68 eating establishments to convert their restaurant licenses since the ban took effect September 18. Smoking is allowed in Class A lounges, taverns, and hotel lounges, but minors cannot be served unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Bangor's Sea Dog was one eating and drinking establishment that converted to a lounge. There have been few problems with compliance and enforcement of the ban.
