"News & Issues" piece on snowmobilers who want All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) driver
"News & Issues" piece on snowmobilers who want All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) drivers off their trails. According to Bob Meyers, executive director of the Maine Snowmobile Association (MSA), ATVers are riding the snowmobilers' carefully developed trail systems on private land without obtaining permission and some landowners have closed trails on their property in order to keep ATVers out. Of the 40-plus ATV clubs in Maine, only 16, with about 1,000 members, belong to the statewide group ATV Maine. But there are 35,000 ATVs registered in Maine. By comparison, there are 282 snowmobile clubs with some 13,000 families and 2,300 businesses in MSA, and some 80,000 snowmobiles rgistered in the state.
