Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on "Cleaner Cars for Maine" stickers, and a bill before the Legislature that would provide rebates of between $500 and $2,000 for purchases of low-emission, high-mileage vehicles. The stickers, which identify cars that are more fuel efficient and have lower emissions levels, are already showing up on cars at most of the 170 new car dealerships in the state in a first-in-the-nation promotion. And LD 2182 would offer rebates on vehicles that are up to two years old, provided the car is a Low Emission Vehicle and gets the required 30 miles-per-gallon on the highway.
