Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on Maine's Clean Clothes Campaign. In 1997, Bangor became the first city in the nation to pass a resolution discouraging area retailers from selling clothes made in sweatshops. Now, the cause is catching on in Portland and Farmington. The movement in southern Maine recently started circulating a petition with the hope of putting resolutions like the one in Bangor on the books in cities across York and Cumberland counties.
