Abstract

Champion International, which has plants in Bucksport and Costigan and owns 730,000 acres of Maine timberland, is facing charges that it strip-cut hundreds of thousands of acres in Montana and then left the state, leaving hundreds of unemployed mill workers in its wake. A Champion official denies that the same is in store for Maine, and says the reports on Champion's actions in Montana are just not true.
