Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the western Maine town of Parsonsfield, where the state is allowing the use of concentrated septic sludge on forested land. The sludge spreading was to have begun last week on 55 acres but opponents have succeeded in delaying the project, at least until after an informational meeting that was scheduled to be held today. The sludge comes from the Portland Water District and meets the highest standards for dioxin, PCBs and heavy metals, according to David Wright of the Department of Environmental Protection.
