Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on OpSail Maine 2000, which will test the environmental ethics of boaters. Sewage will be an inevitable byproduct of the mass gathering in Portland Harbor over the last weekend in July, and a group called Friends of Casco Bay fear much of it will end up in the harbor. There are only two pump-out stations convenient to the harbor to service an expected fleet of up to 2,000 spectator boats. Sandy Marsters, editor of Points East, said the concentration of boats spells environmental trouble. With a list of other pump-out stations between Portland and Brunswick.
