Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the Land for Maine's Future (LMF) board and its approval of the first acquisition under the $50 million bond issue approved by voters last fall: a 17-acre parcel in Livermore, which is being purchased for a public boat launch facility. But some are questioning the cost because Northeast Appraisal of Windham put the value of the property on Round and Long ponds at $195,000. However, the seller's price was firm at $204,750, or about 5 percent above the appraisal. LMF has a policy against paying more than the appraised value for property. Commissioner Ron Lovaglio of the Department of Conservation has suggested selling off part of the parcel not needed for boat access to recoup some of the purchase price.
