Abstract

"Feature Story" piece on a Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) plan to zone Maine's wilderness. The effort, begun five years ago, is in its final stages. At their Oct. 18 meeting, the LURC commissioners are scheduled to vote on a plan that would limit development in the Rangeley Lakes region. Next on the list for prospective zoning are Moosehead Lake, Carrabassett Valley and the Millinocket area. LURC is the zoning and planning agency for Maine's 10.5 million-acre unorganized territory.
