Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on pain and pain management. While about 75 percent of hospital admissions are due to pain, there is widespread evidence that it is not being treated adequately in Maine because the vast majority of physicians have little or no training in pain management, according to recent studies. With special focus on Dr. Kenneth Blazier, director of the Mercy Hospital Pain Center in Portland, and Dr. Stanley Evans, who manages the hospital's recovery center.
