Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the Gulf of Maine International Ocean Wilderness, which would run along the Hague Line, the United States-Canada border, to form a protected area that starts 12 miles offshore and extends 20 miles wide to the outer reaches of Georges Bank, 200 miles from the mainland. Fishermen say they were purposefully left out of the process. Chris Zeman, fisheries programs counsel for the American Oceans campaign, addressed some of the problems at a public forum on the issue at the Camden Public Library this week. He believes there are alternatives that could promote compromise.
