Abstract

Farmington is one of two communities in Maine to receive a Ford Foundation grant to study the issue of sustainability in rural towns in northern New England. The Rev. Scott Planting of the Fairbanks Union Church will lead the three-year, $120,000 Sustainable Communities Project. Another group in Farmington is trying to improve the town's self-sufficiency and keep alive local agriculture by establishing a town-run operation that would offer processing, storage and production facilities.
