Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the Portland Water District, which is leading a campaign to free local water systems from the oversight of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC). The PUC is in charge of the business end of water delivery, including rate setting, billing frequency and consumer satisfaction. The Maine Water Utilities Association (MWUA) has sent a questionnaire to its 125 members, asking for input on the deregulation issue; the association's support is key to allowing the proposed change to move forward. The MWUA board will meet later this month to discuss the results of the survey and establish its position.
