"News & Issues" piece on a recent study by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which reports that the Earth will warm at a faster rate in the next 100 years than at any time in the past 10,000 years, and subsequent rises in ocean water levels will lead to loss of existing shoreline areas. But Greg Zielinski, the state's climatologist and a research associate professor at the Institute for Quaternary Studies at the University of Maine, says it's difficult to predict future climate trends based on current and recent data.
