Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the 762,192-acre Pingree Forest Partnership Project in Maine, the largest forest protection easement in U. S. history, which has prompted calls to the New England Forestry Foundation from other families interested in creating land easements. The easement cost $37.10 an acre, in contrast to the 657,000-acre West Branch Project, which could cost up to $100 an acre and has been subject to more scrutiny because it will use public funds, something the Pingree project avoided. With details on both projects.
