Abstract

"Other Voices" piece by Alice Knapp, a former director of the Consumer Health Care Division in the state Bureau of Insurance and now an attorney in Bangor, arguing that L.D. 1745, "An Act to Address issues in the Maine Health Insurance Market," proposed by Gov. Angus King, is consistent with one of King's favorite themes: personal responsibility. Under the bill, the prohibition against varying premiums based on health status would be removed and health insurance premiums for the aged and those in poor health would become prohibitive.
