Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the Maine Senate's latest budget proposal, which takes $2 million from the Maine School Library Network (MSLN) and applies it toward a technology initiative. The MSLN was formed in 1995 as part of a rate settlement with Nynex (now Verizon), and of the original $20 million in the fund, $8 million is left. The Senate proposal would do away with Gov. Angus King's $50 million technology endowment and appropriate $2.3 million, including $2 million from the MSLN, to fund King's initiative for only one year.
