Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a proposal by Lane Construction of Meriden, Conn., to develop a granite quarry, asphalt and concrete plant, and rock-crushing facility in the Knox County town of Washington. The proposal is being opposed by a group of residents calling themselves the Land Association of Washington, who are alleging a violation of town ordinance and decrying the environmental and aesthetic impact of the facility. Lane, which currently operates about a dozen facilities in Maine, would use materials produced by the plant for its own paving projects in Maine as well as selling to other contractors.
