Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on members of the Maine State Nurses Association (MSNA), which represents about 3,000 of Maine's 23,000 registered nurses, who voted 259-31 earlier this month to sever administrative ties with their parent organization, the American Nurses Association (ANA). MSNA maintains ANA has been too passive in advocating for nurses in the work force and for the quality of patient care. Joe Niemczura of Ellsworth resigned his position as MSNA president after the vote and is leading a call to reform a viable ANA chapter in Maine.
