Abstract

"News" piece on the continuing sell-off of the North Woods, as illustrated by Plum Creek Timber's announcement that it proposes to develop 89 camp lots on First Roach Pond, 18 miles north of Greenville, and Hancock Timber Resource Group's decision to hire Land Vest, a timber specialist, to market the 53,524-acre Frontier district in Atean, Dennistown, Forsyth, and Holeb Townships. The First Roach Pond area has an outstanding fishery, scenic shoreline, botanical and other cultural resources, and the Frontier district's lands encompass some of Maine's most beautiful border territory.
