Abstract
"News" piece on Maine's loon population. The Maine Audubon Society is optimistic about the results of its annual statewide count conducted by 650 volunteers on 250 lakes last month and they hope to have results tabulated by October. Last year's count yielded 2,318 loons. The chick population has held constant at about 250 per year.
