Abstract
"News" piece on greenhouse gas inventories for Portland and Augusta. Last year, Portland produced 972,732 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, the measure of gas that contributes to the greenhouse-gas effect. Augusta produced around 350,000 in 2000. Research suggests that the accumulation of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases is leading to increased global temperatures. The International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives sponsored the project.
