Abstract

Gov. John McKernan has informed the federal Environmental Protection Agency that nine northern and eastern counties will not be covered under proposed state regulations aimed at bringing Maine in compliance with the federal Clean Air Act. McKernan said the state needs more time to determine if the 13 paper and wood mills in those counties should be required to install costly pollution-control equipment. Details.
