Abstract

"Arts" piece on Christopher Zimmerman, who recently stepped down as conductor of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra (BSO) after seven years to accept a position with the Symphony of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, a community of 114,000 about 90 miles east of Houston. Zimmerman's possible successor at BSO, which is the oldest continuing community orchestra in the country, are Xiao-Lu Li of Shanghai, Michael Jinbo of Hawaii, Uri Barnea of Israel, Paul Philips of Rhode Island, and Janna Hymes-Bianchi of Camden, who will be the first woman finalist for the job.
