Abstract

State Conservation Commissioner Ed Meadows met with representatives of Timberlands Inc. and the Mount Blue Coalition two weeks ago to discuss ways to resolve the conflict over Timberlands' contract allowing it to harvest wood in Mount Blue State Park. Meadows said the state cannot afford to buy out the contract, and does not believe Timberlands will take advantage of a capital gains tax write-off on the value of the uncut lumber. Details.
