Abstract

"News" piece on Sunday River, which, since the 1980s, has widened dramatically. A recent watershed survey by the Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District found the most serious new side channel is a 72-foot-wide by 5-foot-deep cut in Bethel. The situation is also having a negative impact on the trout fishery, according to Forrest Bonney, who headed a 1998 biological study of the river for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. But a survey of non-point pollution sources concluded more research on river dynamics and flow patterns is needed before large-scale restoration can occur.
