Abstract

"News" piece on the Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee, which believes the Department of Human Services should not be so quick to remove children from their families and should expend more effort fixing potentially dangerous situations. Rep. Glenys Lovett, R-Scarborough, said family reunification is a major problem and though a cost analysis needs to be done, a better system shouldn't necessarily cost more. The committee is focusing on the problem because of the Logan Marr tragedy last January, and the Judiciary Committee also intends to hold child protective hearings for the same reason.
