Abstract

Detailed article about Great Northern Paper Co.'s plans to sell its hydroelectric assets, consisting of 6 power stations and 11 storage dams with 300,000 megawatt hours of capacity, to Canadian conglomerate Brascan Corp., for $156.5 million. Steve Ward, the state's public advocate, who has no official role to play concerning the sale, says that if the hydro facilities are separated from the mills at Millinocket and East Millinocket, the mills will be unable to stand on their own.
