Abstract

"Cover Story" profiling Maine's former chief justice Daniel Wathen, 62, who abruptly ended his judicial career Oct. 3 and announced his decision to enter the Republican primary race for governor, then changed his mind and dropped out on Nov. 26. Wathen's record as a jurist is far more comprehensive and includes many examples of both courage and caution. But his greatest legacy is a now-four-year-old family division within the District Court system. With a look at Wathen's record as reflected in some of the most important cases that came before him during his tenure on the judicial bench.
