Abstract

"News" piece on a proposed agreement between the state and the National Park Service (NPS) on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway that would limit the impact of the John's Bridge access, which was approved by the Land Use Regulation Commission. The proposal is receiving cautious support from environmentalists, but the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine is opposed to the measure. The agreement says NPS supports the Department of Conservation's 1999 Management Plan. If that statement remains, it could impede activists from challenging waterway management methods they disagree with.
