Abstract

"News" piece on nursing program enrollments in Maine universities, which has hit a 10-year high due to publicity surrounding the nursing shortage, according to Joan Brissette, assistant director at the University of Maine School of Nursing. Brissette said UMaine has the biggest first-year class this year since 1983. But Marianne Rodgers, the University of Southern Maine's nursing program chairwoman, said the increase in enrollments is still not enough to offset the number of retirees anticipated over the next few years.
