Abstract

"News" piece on a state effort to make rules on tree clearing standards in shoreland protection areas consistent between the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Doug Denico of Plum Creek Timber Co. and the Maine Forest Products Council said current rules that require a screen of trees works just fine and the new LURC rules, which will match DEP's aren't necessary. But the Maine Forest Service and Maine Audubon Society both support the new LURC rules. With details about the changes in LURC rules.
