Abstract

At least two logging contractors who purchased parcels from Diamond Occidental are being fined by the state Land Use Regulation Commission for illegal harvesting procedures. Logging contractor Herb Haynes clearcut a parcel in Kossuth Township in Washington County, and the Shay Brothers contracting firm bulldozed streams during some of its operations on former Diamond lands. Diamond sold most of its 790,000 acres in Maine to James River Corp. and the Hancock Timber Resource Group, but still has some land available. Details.
