Abstract

"News" piece on Portland's Casco Bay Weekly (CBW) newspaper, which fired four of its five editorial staff members last week in a management-labor showdown following owner Dodge Morgan's order to reduce the paper's budget from $215,000 to $135,000. Among those fired was Al Diamon, who has since moved his political column to CBW's competitor, the Portland Phoenix. CBW distributes two-thirds of its 30,000 papers in Portland, while only a third of the Phoenix's 44,000 papers are distributed in Portland.
