Abstract

"News" piece on the Regional Medical Center at Lubec, which has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to study the feasibility of establishing a methadone clinic in Washington County. Maine currently has four licensed methadone clinics: private, for-profit operations in Westbrook, South Portland and Winslow, and a nonprofit program at Acadia Hospital in Bangor. Narcotics addicts in Washington County currently travel to southern Maine for treatment, with some staying in Portland homeless shelters.
