Abstract

Ski resorts such as Sugarloaf/USA and Sunday River are equivalent in size and environmental impact to large industries that help sustain small cities. Sugarloaf has an annual electric bill totaling $900,000, and snowmaking demands on local water sources can be considerable. The potential impact on the environment can be dramatically lessened when management adopts environmentally sound practices and procedures aimed at sustaining the surrounding environment. Details.
