Abstract

An animal shot last September near Greenville has been determined to be a purebred wolf, the first confirmed sighting in Maine in around 90 years. Wildlife experts are not convinced the wolf is making a comeback in the state, and are not even sure that the one killed was wild. The wolf is an endangered species, and under federal law any killing one is subject to a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine. Details.
