Abstract

University of Maine System clerical workers have been working without a contract for nearly two years, and the union is pointing to the system's $31 million in reserve funds to challenge its plea of poverty in the ongoing contract negotiations. An external audit by KPMG Peat Marwick recommended that the systemwide reserves not be used to fund ongoing operating expenses such as pay raises. Details.
