The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded a $500,000 grant to the Maine Metal Products Association, which will use the funds to help around 50 of Maine's metal manufacturers become more competitive in the private sector, thus lessening their reliance on defense contracts. The money will be administered by the Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing Project, and will go towards teaching the companies how to increase efficiency and reduce their output of hazardous waste.
