Abstract

Roy Bouchard, a water quality specialist with the state Department of Environmental Protection, on Saturday told the Congress of Lake Associations that Great Pond in Belgrade is being set up for an explosive algae bloom similar to the one that occurred on China Lake in the mid-1980s. The DEP's Lakes Program has been abolished because of budget cuts, and the state can currently afford to monitor only 20 of Maine's 1,900 lakes. Details.
