Abstract

The Maine Legislature and Gov. McKernan supported a bill to allow Central Maine Power Co. to use low-interest loans from state-backed bonds to buyout its contracts with independent power producers in the state. In New Hampshire, Gov. Steve Merrill acted to prevent any wood-fired generating plants from being closed as a result of renegotiated contracts with Public Service of New Hampshire. As a result two of the state's freestanding biomass plants have renegotiated their contracts, while the other six are expected to soon. Details.
