Abstract

Editorial on the need to do something about the state's lakes. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection's Lakes Program has been abolished, and there is no money in the state's Lakes Restoration Fund. The state will collect data from only 20 lakes this year, as compared to 600 in 1990, even though 50 lakes have regular algae blooms and 220 others violate their water quality classifications.
