Abstract

State officials last week criticized plans by the town of Wells to replenish Wells Beach with 160,000 cubic yards of sand dredged from around the two jetties built to enlarge the harbor. The National Guard last week was scheduled to begin moving the sand from the jetties to Wells Beach and Drakes Island Beach, but because of the state's objections a sandbag wall will be constructed around the threatened properties while other options are reviewed.
